| The Westerly Fire Department held a pinning ceremony on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 6:30 PM to formally recognize the election and promotion of Edward W. Haik to the rank of 3rd Assistant Chief.
The event filled the room with Westerly Fire volunteers, department leadership, members from surrounding fire departments, family, and friends — all gathered to honor Haik’s service and celebrate this important milestone.
The evening began with opening remarks from Chief Mackay, who welcomed members and guests, noting the significance of the ceremony in honoring both Assistant Chief Haik’s service and the traditions of the fire service. Assistant Chief Morrone also shared remarks before Haik was formally presented.
Haik, a 28-year veteran of the department, has served in nearly every capacity, including firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Foreman of Alert Hook & Ladder Co. 1. He was joined by his wife, Sue, and their children Emily, Marcus, and Sydney, with his daughter Alisa streaming in remotely. Sue proudly pinned his new badge during the ceremony.
Chief Mackay commended Haik’s dedication, professionalism, and the bonds of brotherhood that define the fire service, while closing remarks reflected on the commitment of all members who serve the community.
Photos of the event were taken by WFD Department Photographer Danny Hyland.
