| The Westerly Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Edward Haik to the rank of 3rd Assistant Chief, following a vote at the annual Westerly Fire District Meeting on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Assistant Chief Haik steps into the position (Car 34) previously held by Louis “Jay” Trebisacci, who recently retired after years of dedicated leadership and service to the department. Chief Trebisacci’s commitment and steady leadership have left a lasting impact on the Westerly Fire Department, and the department extends its deepest gratitude for his many years of service.
Haik brings more than 27 years of active service to his new role. Over his career, he has served in nearly every capacity within the department, including Captain, Lieutenant, Foreman of Alert Hook & Ladder Co., and President of the Veterans Association. Known for his professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to both the department and the community, Haik has earned the respect and trust of his fellow members.
In his new role, Assistant Chief Haik plans to focus on enhancing member training and readiness, improving communication, and promoting unity across all ranks.
“I’ve proudly answered the call alongside the men and women of this department for nearly three decades,” said Assistant Chief Haik. “As Assistant Chief, I look forward to building on our strengths, supporting our members, and ensuring that the Westerly Fire Department continues to serve our community with professionalism and pride.”
A pinning ceremony to officially recognize Assistant Chief Haik’s promotion will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 6:30 PM at Westerly Fire Department Headquarters, 7 Union Street, Westerly, RI. All are welcome to attend.
In addition to Chief Haik’s promotion, the district also elected Jennifer Brinton to the position of Clerk, replacing Mary Ellen Buckley, who resigned earlier this year. The department thanks Ms. Buckley for her service and warmly welcomes Ms. Brinton into her new role.
