At 1:48 AM on Friday, July 25, 2025, Westerly Dispatch received a report of a structure fire at 49 Spring Street. Westerly Police arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed an active fire on the porch, extending into the structure.

Engine 3 arrived on scene at 1:56 AM. The crew deployed two 1¾” handlines for an interior attack and secured a water supply using a reverse lay from a nearby hydrant. Engine 2 connected to the hydrant assist valve. Ladder 1 was prepared to perform vertical ventilation but ultimately transitioned to horizontal ventilation.

The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour. Volunteers remained on scene for several additional hours conducting overhaul and checking for fire extension.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
