April 2, 2021

On Monday March 29, 2021 calls were received reporting a structure fire at 34 Pearl St at 2252. Initial callers reported a person still in the building. First arriving firefighters found heavy fire out the front windows on the first floor extending up the front and confirmed all residents made it out of the dwelling. Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire from the rear on both first and second floors knocking down the bulk of the fire in about 30 minutes. Mutual aid was provided by Pawcatuck Fire Department and Westerly Ambulance stood by in the event of injuries. Due to the type of construction associated with this older home extensive overhaul of the house was required. Westerly firefighters remained on scene chasing hot spots and insuring extinguishment until 3:00am.The entire house suffered extensive smoke and water damage with the extent of the fire damage confined to the front of the first two floors. No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters. The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal and Westerly Police are investigating the cause.

Units: Car 31, 32, 33, & 34. Engines 1, 2, 3, & 4. Ladder 1. Special Hazards.

Mutual Aid: Pawcatuck Fire Department, Westerly Ambulance, Westerly Police Department
