Person Found in Pawcatuck River Following Intensive Search

Around 7:15 PM on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, Westerly Fire, Pawcatuck Fire, Westerly Police, Stonington Police, and Westerly Ambulance responded to a call about a person in the river near 99 Main Street. Westerly Fire Marine 30 and Pawcatuck Fire Marine 1 were promptly launched to search the riverbanks along the Pawcatuck River, accompanied by a drone. The United States Coast Guard and DEM were notified.

Westerly Fire units concluded their operations at 9PM, while Westerly Police and a USCG Helicopter remained on-site yielding a negative search result.

The search resumed this morning, with additional Regional Marine Assets from Union Fire District and Dunn's Corner's Fire Department, shortly after 9am. The person was found this morning at approximately 10:30.
