Last evening at 2051 Westerly Fire was dispatched to the area of the Westerly Transfer Station 39 Larry Hirsch Lane for a large unknown type fire. Upon arrival it was determined that a fire began in one of the large tractor trailer dump vehicles. The fire was in the trailer portion which was loaded with construction debris. The trailer contents were burning heavily and Westerly firefighters used Ladder 1 to knock down the heavy fire in the trailer. Transfer station staff were called in to assist in dumping the load and spreading it out so extinguishment could be completed, two foam capable handlines were used to accomplish this task. Westerly firefighters cleared the scene just before midnight. Damage was confined to the debris. No cause has been determined.
