December 20, 1888- The Chapman Building at the corner of Main and Broad Sts. was heavily damaged.
December 19, 1892- The barn and storehouse owned by AH. Spicer on Cross St were destroyed.
December 1, 1896-Union St, the Dwelling AB Crafts was seriously damaged by fire. House stood where the old police station is.
December 22, 1903-Bee Hive Department Store & Brown Building 20 High St. was completely gutted by fire. Westerly and Pawcatuck firefighters laid 3500 feet of hose. Pawcatuck firemen used a boat to get their line into position at the rear of the building. The Flames were so bright they could be seen as far away as New London. damage was estimated at $150,000. ($4.4 million today.)
December 23, 1905-Box 56-0200- The Briggs Building at the corner of Main and Broad St experienced a serious fire. 24 lengths of house were used to douse the fire. The building stood where the War Memorial is located and was removed to build the present bridge in 1932.
December 27, 1905-Box 34-0400-The Cavalry Church on Elm St, experienced a smoky fire. The building is still on Elm St. and was formerly known as the Girl Scout House. Damage estimate was $7000.($207, 000 today)
December 28, 1905-Box 57-0730-Potter-Langworthy Building on High St was destroyed by a fire that drew many spectators to watch Westerly and Pawcatuck firefighters laid numerous lines to subdue the fire. Damage was estimated at $56,000 ($1.6 million today). Firefighters remained on scene until 1545.
December 27, 1907-Box 52 -Barbour’s Drug Store Broad St was gutted.
December 6, 1935-Box 32-1300-24 Spring St. Ahearn Home was damaged.
December 31, 1936-Box 63-Fraquelli-Brusa Granite Shed Oak St. Damage was extensive and many finished pieces of granite were damaged and was estimated at $35000 ($655,000). A second alarm brought 2 more trucks from the station with additional hose.
December 1, 1940-Box 52-0035-46-48 Main St Davey & Maxwell Block fire started in the partition between two business. Smoke and water damage were extensive.
December 5, 1940-Box 57-Hotel Martin/Jack & Harry’s Canal St.
December 27, 1944-Box 73-1030-Canal St, next to Ritz Café, fire in apartment 3rd floor and portion of the roof.
December 18, 1945-Box 57-0355-Brown Building, 3 alarms sounded for this fire; McClellan Store suffered heavy damage; loss estimated at $100,000.
December 22, 1946-Box 73-1559-100 Canal St. fire started by intruder, smoke damage.
December 31, 1947-Box 56-1302-Pickering Taxicab Offices gutted, damage to walls and roof.
December 2, 1949-Box 73-1130-Orsenigo Furniture Co. Industrial Dr. flash fire in the plant booths used to spray lacquer on furniture pieces.
December 15, 1949-Box 126-East Ave house fire; roof and 2nd floor extensively damaged,
December 23, 1951-Box 327-1503-Avondale Rd. home heavily gutted. Watch Hill Fire Department also sent a truck.
December 26, 1951-Boxes 62 and 68-1628-136 Tower St. fire heavily damages cellar.
December 17, 1953-Box 75-2104-14 Dayton St Sculco Cheese Co. Heavy damage to rear of the building caused by wood stove.
December 20, 1953-Box 61-1433-6 Tower St Walcott estate barn burned and fire damage was heavy.
December 26, 1958-Box 1213-2320-32 Chester Ave for a fire on 1st floor. Westerly Rescue 1 provided floodlights. One person was founded on 2nd floor but succumbed to her injuries.
December 29, 1958-Box 4111-Seidner Mayonnaise Co Friendship St chimney fire extends to roof.
December 12, 1960-Box 33-0145-A massive fire destroyed four downtown buildings in Mystic CT. The Westerly Fire Department responded with 2 engines and the Pawcatuck Fire Department responded with their ladder which were three of the twenty pieces of apparatus on scene. 300 firefighters battled the blaze in 15 degree temperatures in the middle of a blizzard that dropped over 12 inches of snow.
December 16, 1962-Box 3121-1930-15 Granite St. house fire; fire started around the chimney and extended up through the attic.
December 21, 1963-Box 3222-1500-90 Oak St, house fire, fire spread from the cellar to 1st floor via rear wall.
December 8, 1969-Asst. Chief Andrew Comolli passes away.
December 21, 1969-Box 1253-0945-22 Woodlund Ave, house fire
December 24, 1971-Box 2312-1930-A fire at 140 Winnapaug Rd severely damaged the Sposato residence.
December 23, 1975-Box 4116-0130-Structure fire Pleasant St.
December 29, 1975-Box 3154-1645-Narragansett Ave, Structure fire
December 13, 1977-Box 18-1520-Mutual Aid to Bradford, Red Barn Drive for a well involved residential structure fire.
December 21, 1979-Box 524-141 High St, structure fire.
December 29, 1979-Box 13-2112-Mutual Aid to Pawcatuck on Coggswell St for a fully involved building fire.
December 23, 1980-Box 535-The Nardone Block at the corner of Canal and High St in the John Bean Music Co for an explosion and fire (propane tank involved).
December 22, 1982-Box 1133-1537-The Riverside Inn at 205 Main St, suffered extensive damage to the upper floors and roof. One occupant was removed by three others prior to the arrival of the fire department. The was the third serious fire in the building. Fires in 1943 and 1966 also did extensive damage. The building was torn down.
December 29, 1984-Box 1243-0727-32 East Ave for a fire in a single family ranch caused by a gas explosion. The house was destroyed and the lone occupant was severely burned.
December 16, 1987-Box 4162-2109-39 Meadowview Terrace, A side of duplex for a room and contents fire.
December 26, 1987-Box 15-0635-Mutual Aid to Watch Hill, 11 Wapan Rd for a Structure fire. Additional mutual aid provided by Misquamicut, and Dunn's Corners Fire Departments as well as the Westerly Ambulance.
December 23, 1989-Box 1315-1012-9 Raymond St for a structure fire in a single family home.
December 29, 1989-Box 4214-1848-White Rock, Main St for a structure fire. The house suffered serious damage.
December 10, 1992-Box 4252-0152-White Rock, 60 Main St for 4 family mill duplex house which was destroyed. An occupant on the first
December 3, 1996-Box 1243-0144-Westerly Hospital for an electrical fire in a portable MRI trailer.
December 4, 1998-Box 211-2323-American Felt & Filter, Canal St for a Machine fire.
December 7, 1998-Box 211-1816-American Felt & Filter, Canal St for a Machine fire.
December 7, 1998-Box 211-2041- American Felt & Filter, Canal St for a Machine fire.
December 12, 1998-Box 1211-2240-Gravity Ct off Newton Ave for a brush and garage. Fire was suspicious.
December 13, 1998-Box 3132-0108-8 ½ Park Ave, fire completely guts the building. This building had previously been severely damaged by an earlier fire in September. This fire and the previous one occurred in the same vicinity and both were suspicious.
December 28, 1999-Box 3235-0741-Westerly Transfer Station suffered extensive damage when a fire of undetermined origin began just after opening for the day. The fire was reported by Chief Robert Sullivan of the Bradford Fire Department.
December 29, 1999-Box 4113-2240- Charlie’s Auto Body at 25 Canal St was damaged when a fire broke out in the office area on the second floor.
December 28, 2005-Box 13-1606-Mutual Aid to Pawcatuck, 102 West Broad St., Engines 1,2,4 &Ladder, 3 story multiple dwelling fire on outside of 2nd floor extended via interior to 3rd floor & roof. Wequetequock Fire Department sent 1 engine to the scene.
December 11, 2007-Box 4224-0750-120 Canal St. A metal out building used as illegal residence was destroyed.
December 7, 2010-Box 4415-1045-11 A Schilke Dr for a small barn and mobile home trailer suffered damage. Dunn's Corners Fire Department Tanker 1 was requested to the scene as the house was well off the road.
December 22, 2011-Box 225-1403-Chestnut Court, 5 Chestnut St. Structure fire room B-104 for a room and contents fire.
December 29, 2015-Box 1251-1012-116 Granite St, 1 story strip mall for a fire in the electrical room created smoke condition in several stores. The fire was confined to the electrical room. No water used so dry chemical extinguishers were used to control and confine the fire. Pawcatuck Fire Department sent additional dry chem extinguishers.
December 20, 2017-Box 4116-1836-89 Pierce Street, 4 bay-garage with vehicle inside, multiple storage tanks.
December 12, 2018-Delivery of new Ladder 1, 2018 E-One Cyclone 105 ft. Rear mount steel aerial.
December 26, 2019-Box 4314-1503-187 High St. 2 ½ story wood frame multi-family house. Dryer fire in basement extended into sill plate and 1st floor bathroom wall.
